Kids Belt Ranks
Children Rankings - 4 to 15 Years Old
White Belt– All Ages
The White Belt is the beginning point for all Jiu Jitsu practitioners. Children at this belt will learn the foundation of Jiu Jitsu, including but not limited to, how to break fall, stand up in base, how to move the body fluidly, physical conditioning, mental training, and breathing necessary to grasp the Jiu Jitsu techniques at later stages in the ranking process. A stripe can be obtained after 20 classes and a demonstration of knowledge of the above-noted techniques. At this level, most techniques are taught by way of games such that the student is having fun but also learning the foundation necessary to succeed at later ranks.
Grey Belt – 4 to 6 Years Old
The grey belt comes in three categories. Grey with a white stripe, solid grey, and grey with a black stripe, in that order. On each of these belts, the student can obtain 4 stripes, each stripe representing 40 classes, plus a technical demonstration of knowledge. The student will gain additional knowledge of major positions, and how to hold them. At this level, most learning is still in the form of games and group activities that promote teamwork and confidence in one’s ability to follow directions and move the body in ways necessary to prevent injury and improve one’s Jiu Jitsu foundation at later levels.
Yellow Belt – 7 to 10 Years Old
The yellow belt also comes in three categories, white stripe, solid, and black stripe. Each of these belts can hold up to 4 stripes which may be obtained after attending 40 classes, plus a technical knowledge demonstration. The student will begin to learn the LCCT foundation program and will incorporate submissions, escapes, and defenses into their game, and learn foundation techniques such as escaping side control, passing the guard, and taking the back.
Orange Belt – 10 to 13 Years Old
The orange belt also comes in three categories, white stripe, solid, and black stripe. Each of these belts can hold up to 4 stripes which may be obtained after attending 40 classes, plus a technical knowledge demonstration. The student will continue to learn the LCCT foundation program and will incorporate submissions, escapes, and defenses into their game, and learn foundation techniques such as escaping full mount, back mount, and self-defense techniques.
Green Belt – 13 to 15 Years Old
The green belt is the final children’s level belt in Jiu Jitsu and is where the student begins to prepare for the blue belt examination on the LCCT Foundations program. Again this belt comes in 3 striped categories, white, solid, and black and stripes can be obtained on each belt after 40 classes and a technical knowledge demonstration. The student will learn proper positioning, submissions, escapes, and counters for all of the major positions in order to gain a strong foundation in which to build upon their knowledge in the adult ranking system. Techniques include self-defense, closed guard, side control, full mount, back mount, butterfly guard, and spider guard. Once the student earns 4 stripes and meets the minimum age requirement they may test for the next belt level.
